IPTV SMS Project

Introduction
Velankani contributed to the development of Service Management System (SMS) and deployment of of IPTV solution for a publically listed company. The company offers an IPTV solution to deliver scalable, carrier class system offering entertainment services in an IP infrastructure. The SMS provides customer management, account management, billing services, packaging, program management, Set Top Box management, content delivery, program guide delivery and inventory management.
Typical IPTV deployment consists of HeadEnd, Central Office and Home Network. HeadEnd provides the multimedia content and storage. Central office houses the SMS clients to communicate with the SMS server and set top box manager for distribution of content as well as managing the deployment. The home network consists of set top boxes, CPEs and TV systems to receive and play the contents. Figure below illustrates a typical IPTV deployment.
The SMS is built based on J2EE framework. The SMS consists of J2EE application servers for various services, SMS server, database server, Web based clients, web server and Java based clients. The SMS supports high availability for carrier grade deployments and distributed and cluster configurations for load balancing, scalability and performance. It supports extensive feature sets to support video on demand, pay per view services and also has best TV browser interface. With web based management system, the STBs can be easily managed/operated.
